Alphil co-founded the Financial Literacy Counsel (FLC) in 1999 out of a passion to increase the financial fluency of every Canadian so they can become wise and responsible stewards of money.
His primary role is developing and teaching financial literacy with a unique emphasis on advocating for economic justice, helping Canadians get their financial houses in order as well as teach heirs and beneficiaries how to be financially responsible.
FLC’s educational programs and resources can be found in settings such as St George’s School, The Canadian Government’s Office of Small and Medium Enterprise (OSME), Vancouver Coastal Health EFAP, Canadian Sports Institute, Hockey Canada, Translink, CPA-BC, Resident Doctors of BC, The Physician Health Program, Divisions of Family Practice, Simon Fraser University and UBC Medicine.
Moreover, FLC’s Financial Advisory team of relationship driven financial counsellors collaborate with banking, accounting and legal professionals to provide holistic financial, tax and estate planning solutions for families, corporations and charitable organizations.
Alphil graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Political Science in 2000. His work experience includes business development and fixed income research at CIBC World Markets as well as portfolio management accounting and compliance at RBC Dominion Securities. He has also been a Million Dollar Round Table member for the past 9 years.
Alphil has been an active volunteer within his community for the past 15 years coaching and mentoring leaders of tomorrow. He serves as the Chairperson for the Board of Directors of City in Focus and Advisor to the Stewardship Foundation, organizations dedicated to helping leaders and their families align their values with their work and philanthropic aspirations. Moreover, he is a current board member for Cooking for a Cause and the Finance Committee Chair for both Hope for the Nations and Focus Foundation of BC all of which are organizations dedicated to providing a continuum of care to lift children at risk out of poverty by addressing food insecurity and giving them access to quality education.
